Getting Started

You’ve already made the decision – Your company needs a new website. Whether it’s a re-design, you’re looking for new features or a new feel, or you’re starting from scratch, you know that now’s the time to launch a new face for you company or endeavor.

Now here’s the FUN part! What is your website going to be? Who is your audience? Who are you competitors? What are you selling? All of these questions need to be answered prior to beginning development of your project.

Key Questions:

  1. Who is your target audience?
  2. What are you promoting?
  3. Who are you competitors?

Who is your target audience?

You already have a good idea of who your customers are. Now let’s put a face on them. Picture what the group looks like. What are their interests? Are they male or female? Young or old? Web savvy, or haven’t got a clue? How are you approaching them through traditional channels rather than on the web?

What are you promoting?

Are you selling products or services? Are you a resource or are you commercial? Are you trying to get your users to call you for a sale, or buy online? Are you trying to create a brand name, or simply move product? Having a primary focus for your site makes it easier for your customer to understand how to navigate to what they’re looking for and ensures repeat visits and word of mouth.

Who are you competitors?

Start by going to a search engine and typing in a few words that describe what your company does and where you are located. Is your site showing up? If not, that’s a problem! The site that did show up… well, those are your competition. These are the sites your customers are going to as well as the sites that are stealing your business. Bookmark their sites and let us know who they are. And don’t worry; your new website will have them trying to compete with you…
